The Charleston Vest is a slim fit tailored men’s fashion vest. It is perfect for everything from weddings and formal affairs to simply jazzing up daily style depending on the fabrics used. It’s ideal for adding a bit of flair and style to your wardrobe. It can be made in sizes 28-54 and includes front and back darts, zipper or single welt pockets, and pocket flaps. All seams are fully enclosed. There is an option for facing, or just lining for a reversible vest. Each step is fully illustrated for ease of construction.
This pattern is for woven fabrics with little to no stretch. It can be made using a variety of fabrics from lightweight shirting to wool and corduroy. The lining should be a lighter weight fabric such as fashion linings, cotton, or linen.
The finished length of the vest back is 17.25 inches for the teen sizes and 21 inches for the adult sizes. This can be adjusted for different heights by using the lengthen/shorten lines included in the pattern. While the pattern is drafted for measurements with a smaller waist than chest, by following the detailed fit instructions you can grade between sizes for the perfect fit.
Seam allowances are 3/8” unless otherwise noted. The vest should be made using a sewing machine, as serged seams tend to be bulkier.
This pattern is created with layers so you can print only your size by unselecting the other sizes in Adobe Acrobat. The pages are trimless and easy to line up and assemble accurately. There is a helpful printing guide to show which pages to print for each option. The tutorial contains hyperlinks making it easy to jump to pages you need while using it digitally. You can also print it if desired.
